Kathodi Families and their traditional homes
Brief History of Kathodi Tribes
There is not any written history or other informations of KATHODI community with Govt. All the information are been given by our organisation. We have done deep study and survey of this community and collected the informations from all present sources including aged Kathodis, forests contractors and those politicans, who were involved in Kathodi rehabilitation programme during 1952 to 1960, Mainly, late freedom fighter Mr. Bherav Lal Verma, who was ensure land allotment in village AMBASA, AMBAVI, TINDORI and BUJHA and served Kathodi community in above period.

KATHODI are tribals of another Indian state MAHARASTRA, which is about 600 K.m. far from our place (Udaipur). They were brought by local forest contractors and traders for forest cutting and preparation of KATTHA and CHARCOAL. In India, KATTHA is used in preparation of BETELS. Kathodi community is expert in preparation of Kattha paste from Bark of CATECHU TREES and this skills has given them the name KATHODI. So, Kathodi is skilled nomadic tribal community.

In India, some people chew betels in several forms, some people use tobacco and some use spice in betels including lime and kattha – pastes with nuts, for good mouth smell or for tobacco intoxication. In our study, we got the facts that some Kathodi families were brought from MAHARASTRA in beginning of 20th Century. At that time, forests were the main source of Govt. evenue, which was coming from auction of forests areas. These contractors cut the forests and supply CHAR-COL, TIMBER, BAMBOOS and KATTHA. In 1947, India became independent and Govt. became aware about ENVIRONMENT and started conservation activities. Specially in 1983, Govt. has declared some forest areas of Kotra and Jhadol blocks as a GAMESANCTURY named “PHULWARI KI NAL” Following KATHODI village falls in this SANCTUARY – (1) AMBASA (2) AMBAVI (3) BUJHA (4) TINDORI (5) BERADAR (6) KEVRI (7) JADA-ANKLA (8) PANARWA (9) GURAD (10) KOT-KADA (11) VAYA-WARA (12) HEVRA (13) SURIMALA (14) CHHALI-BOKRA (15) KAUCHA and (16) MANDWA.
